Junior Preparatory
The Junior Preparatory Phase starts in Grade One and is the year in which our children learn to read and write. Our Grade Two year consolidates these basic foundation skills and encourages ongoing, cross-curricular learning. Grade Three is the last year in this phase is where we prepare our children for the more independent style of teaching and learning in the Senior Phase. Our classes in Grade One and Grade Two consist of 22 children, per class, and this number is increased to 24 children, per class, in Grade Three.
The Junior Preparatory Phase offers an integrated, hands-on curriculum with a focus on Mathematics, English, Life Skills, Life Orientation, Multifaith, and Computational Thinking. Children also enjoy specialist subjects such as isiZulu, Afrikaans, Sesotho, PE, ICT, Media, Music, Singing, and Art. The school day runs from 07:30 to 13:30, followed by a diverse co-curricular programme from 14:00, including sports, cultural activities, and extra-cost options. Grade 1 and 2 children participate in an Integrated Day Sports programme, while Grade 2 and 3 children can join choir or the Grade 3 Orff band. The “Horse Shoe Promise” and “I CARE” values guide daily life.

Senior Preparatory
At Beaulieu Preparatory, our Grades Four to Seven pupils benefit from a dynamic and engaging curriculum that balances strong academic foundations with diverse co-curricular opportunities. Differentiated learning, particularly in Mathematics, allows for smaller classes and individualised attention. Pupils explore a wide range of creative, sporting, cultural, and technological activities, alongside annual educational tours and a Study Skills course. This well-rounded approach supports academic growth, personal development, and fosters a strong partnership between home and school.
Grade 7 Leadership & Development Programme
Beaulieu Preparatory School does not subscribe to a system of prefects. Through the Leadership & Development Programme, each Grade Seven pupil has the opportunity to move through the two levels of Councillorship if they meet the necessary criteria for each. The pupils need to display an exceptional level of commitment, leadership and initiative in the carrying out of duties and responsibilities over an extended period of time.
During the allocated lesson, pupils learn the various characteristics of leadership through a variety of activities, research and discussions, thus developing their own leadership potential and awareness of the responsibility and accountability they each have. Apart from the daily duties, each Grade Seven is part of a committee which has a specific role to play within the functioning of the school. The importance of service is highlighted and each Grade Seven is expected to do a minimum of ten hours of community service. We strive to enable each pupil to leave Grade Seven as a leader with unique characteristics and with the confidence to make a significant difference.

Co-Curricular
At Beaulieu Preparatory School, once pupils are in Gr 3 or above, each child is expected to participate in at least two Co-curricular activity slots per week. We believe that sport should be enjoyed by all participants and that competitive sport, at too young an age, can result in disenchantment. At an Under 8 and Under 9 level, matches are regarded as educational opportunities in which the competitive aspect is secondary to the participants’ assimilation of all aspects of the game.
Our aim is to introduce all pupils to as many different sporting activities as possible. We expose the pupils to and explain the rules and etiquette of a variety of games, We also introduce pupils to the merits of teamwork and interaction. Our pupils are taught to win and to lose with grace and dignity. We provide sporting equipment to enable the pupils to participate effectively in practices and to teach the pupils to care for the equipment, as well as to take pride in their own appearance both on and off the field.

Sport
We recognise each individual’s ability and motivate him/her to persevere and achieve and we also teach all our pupils the importance of being ambassadors of the school. We ensure that every Beaulieu Preparatory pupil who wishes to represent our school has the opportunity to realize this goal. Above all, we teach the importance of fair play and good sportsmanship.

Drama
Beaulieu Preparatory School boasts a dynamic drama department. The events on the drama calendar comprise of drama sessions that are held weekly for the pupils as part of a co-curricular activity. These sessions focus on various acting techniques, staging, directing, production and hosting.
Much festivity is created throughout the Beaulieu community by staging annual plays. These plays are rotated consecutively and include a Senior Preparatory Play, a House Play, a Junior Preparatory Play and a Staff Play.
A monologue evening is held towards the end of a drama season. On this evening a culmination of all skills that the drama pupils have acquired throughout the year are put into practice and serves as a platform for pupils to showcase their talent to their parents, teachers and peers.
Pupils have the option to participate in the National Eisteddfod competition. Holistic tutorship is provided to the participating pupils, who are then presented with various achievement awards.

Art
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”– Pablo Picasso
We believe visual Arts play an essential role in the holistic development of our students. Our art curriculum is relevant, fun and educational. Students learn important artistic and creative skills based on the elements of art and principles of design. Which can be utilised in real world applications and situations. Every grade receives weekly art lessons in which a variety of mediums are taught. Individuality, originality and a range of techniques are encouraged in each student in the art class. Drawing skills are taught as a basis of visual arts, in addition to two and three dimensional art forms such as design on the IPAD, ceramics and pottery. Teaching in the art class is reinforced through the values of patience and kindness, as we believe every child is an artist.
